After two group stage days have been brought to an end, eight out of sixteen attending teams will advance to the playoffs of the WESG APAC Regional Finals tomorrow. Most of the favorites got through, with the biggest surprise being the group stage exit of MVP Project.

The format for the group stage wasn't the standard GSL, but a best-of-two round robin system - with scheduling done in a way to allow additional matches in case of a tie.

Starting with group A, it was VG.CyberZen (playing with a stand-in in place of Bin "Savage" Liu) who split the first place with Fire Dragoon eliminating Parallax and Immunity - who needed to use multiple stand-ins to put forward single-nation rosters.

In group B, the home soil team and one of the bigger names of the tournament - MVP Project, wasn't able to make it through, as they tied 1-1 with ENZO and then lost 2-0 to Athletico - who were forced to use two stand-ins due to school obligations of their players.

AdreN's K23 wasn't troubled in the group stage

On the second day another Chinese team made it through as FIVE took the first place in group C, followed by Signature in second - leaving Mineski and RJ Absolute with just a couple of tied matches.

In the end, we saw the Kazakhstani team K23 tear through group D, ending it with a 6-0 map score and a +80 round difference. Despite pushing K23 the farthest before losing 16-14, the second Korean team m0nster also failed to make it out of the group, as they were edged out by Orange in the end.

With the group stage done and dusted, the playoffs will kick-off tomorrow with the quarter-finals. The match-ups will be determined using a random draw before the matches start, with teams that finished first in their groups only being able to draw second place teams from other groups and vice versa.

The eight playoffs teams are competing for the $75,000 prize pool and six spots at the WESG Global Finals—with additional matches being played between the teams that lose their quarter-final matches to determine the last two spots.
